Our history.
Established in 2015,
The Independent Commission for Human Rights in North Africa (CIDH AFRICA) was founded as a secular and apolitical regional nonprofit organization. It operates as a vital network connecting 465 human rights organizations across North Africa. With its headquarters in Morocco, CIDH AFRICA serves as a cornerstone for promoting and protecting human rights within the region, emphasizing collaboration with both national and international entities.
Over the years, CIDH AFRICA has actively engaged with prominent global human rights mechanisms, including the United Nations Human Rights Council and the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR). Its achievements include organizing over 50 panels, workshops, and conferences in multiple countries, addressing pressing human rights issues. The Commission has contributed to the African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance and led grassroots initiatives aimed at fostering freedom of expression, association, and assembly.
